The mayor of Seattle desperatly wants to build a tunnel to replace an ageing double-decker along the city waterfront that was badly damaged, but not destroyed, in the 2001 Nisqually earthquake.It's going to be Big Dig 2.What I love the most about this whole thing is that we keep getting told by city and state leaders that the replacement of the Alaska Way Viaduct (aka Hwy 99) is an emergency, that it could collapse at any moment. That hasn't prompted them from closing it, however. And even though the damage was done five years ago, there is no plan in place to replace.
