The HBO series "John Adams" ended last night, wrapping up a portrait of a man who held true to his principles even as he was despised by fellow politicians. And then there's President Bush:
Somewhere in between the parade of busty women in low-cut gold lame minidresses and contestants spinning the wheel, George Bush made a star turn.Ha-ha-ha. Meanwhile, the three candidates who would be President #44 taped segments for "Monday Night Raw" to appeal to America's wrestling fans. Yee-haw, that's finger-lickin' good politics! Let's jump right into the beer pong contest and end this thing already.
"I'm thrilled to be on 'Deal or No Deal' with you tonight," Mr. Bush said from a giant screen in a cameo taped for the Monday episode of one of NBC's most popular prime-time shows. The president paused a beat. "Come to think of it, I'm thrilled to be anywhere with high ratings these days."

The realization that one of the current three knuckleheads is going to be the next POTUS should cause the thoughtful citizen, regardless of his political affiliation, to wonder: "Is this the best we have?"
Yet once the election process begins everyone will start ripping into each other about how evil/stupid/un-American the other side is.
John Adams once wrote:
"Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There was never a democracy that did not commit suicide."
We've survived worse. Luckily, our system was not built to depend on having a wonderful 'leader'.
Lincoln was pretty unappreciated when he was elected. Truman was widely ridiculed. We can't really tell until they're in office.
I think Obama would be a disaster of Carteresque proportions (although I'd pay big money to see a real picture of Obama fending off a Killer Rabbit with a boat oar) and neither Hillary or McCain would be any prize, but I wouldn't expect either one to be as godawful as Obama would be or Carter was.
On the positive side, I'm willing to bet that in about two years Bush wouldn't be looking so bad in comparison.
On the positive side? Brighten up, he could be worse than the worst? That's a funny idea of "positive."
Rah! Rah! Rah! Goooooo team!
Compared to Carter or Clinton, Bush towers like a giant. And being followed by Obama would soon make him look like Jefferson or Lincoln.
I'm not wild about Bush, but anyone who thinks he's awful should at least have to: a) admit to Carter being much, much worse, and; b) point to Clinton's significant accomplishments. For b) I count NAFTA. His 'balanced budgets' came courtesy of the policies forced on him by the Republican Congress (Clinton claimed all along that they would only balance the budget in "10, no 9, no 8, no 7 years" when he got interrupted by the budget being balanced) as was welfare reform.
I've never been all that much of a Bush fan, but the idiocies of the BDS sufferers seems to impel me to defend him some.

This says it all, really.
That he goes on, apparently unburdened by reflection or self-awareness, to describe others as "deranged"? Mmm. The delicious cherry on the shame-free sundae.
