Jeff Jacoby, the sole conservative at the Boston Globe, cites national security as “Edwards’s glaring weakness”: “As a candidate, Edwards has undeniable strengths -- in many ways, he improves the Democratic ticket. In fact, there is really only one issue on which Kerry's new running mate is glaringly weak. It just happens to be the issue that matters most.”

Do you read Cathy Young in the Globe? She's tough to categorize, so it might be stretching the conservative label a bit to call her one. She's sharp, from a tradition of anti-communism, and no friend of the Dems.

On a related note, I've always thought the Globe brave for holding on to Jacoby during a time when firing writers was Boston's biggest indoor sport.
