It’s a baseball metaphor – I’m only a casual viewer of “The Apprentice” but Trump’s acolytes are absolutely addicted to the phrase “step up to the plate.” “He/she really stepped up to the plate this week” and “We needed you to step up to the plate in this task.” Once you notice it, it’s distracting beyond belief.
Comments:
I have always hated that term ever since my first boss used it incessantly. So now, I always notice it and cringe -- even when it's just said ONCE.
And, yes, I did keep cringing over and over last night during the show.
It's not so much about how it is a baseball term, as much as it is a total cliche. And we know that yuppie go-getting corporate-climbers love their stock-phrases. In fact, I am quite surprised the word 'paradigm' has not come up more frequently. Or 'change management'.

Weight Watchers today. Not only do they have a good fitness book section, but they also have great articles on fitness. I was really impressed with the resources their webmster put together. |
