From the last paragraph of the article - "His record in office was mixed. His biggest success was in foreign policy - pioneering a more assertive role for Germany."
German foriegn policy was his biggest success? That is weak praise, indeed.
1. Merkel is more liberal than Schroder, you dink. But don't let political fact interfere with another fun round of "Freedom Fries and Sour Krauts." 2. Don't snicker at the man's loss. Schroder came so close to finishing first that he'd still be Chancellor if he had the Rehnquist Court to say so.
