From Fox News:
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove told President Bush and others that he never engaged in an effort to disclose a CIA operative's identity to discredit her husband's criticism of the administration's Iraq policy, according to people with knowledge of Rove's account in the investigation.I’m trying to remember the context of the Matthew Cooper conversation but, if I recall, Cooper telephoned Rove and started talking about a completely different matter. Then he (Cooper) steered the conversation to Valerie Plame and that she worked at the CIA, to which Rove replied something like “Oh, you know about that.” Although Rove may have slipped into illegality, this exchange (if true) hardly evinces much “effort” on Rove’s part.
