Four days, ago, the WashPost ran an editorial castigating Nancy Pelosi for her “cynical” response Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson’s speech urging Social Security reform. A key excerpt:
The Social Security reform that President Bush pushed last year involved personal retirement accounts. But it did not involve "privatization": The accounts, which were to be optional, were to be designed and administered by the government, with no opportunities for Wall Street salesmen to foist enormous hidden fees on unsuspecting workers. In response, Pelosi has a letter to the editor today that is comical in its risible repetition of the word “privatization.” Also conspicuously absent: the slightest hint at the Democrats’ reform solution. But she’s not being cynical!
