I had seen this before and thought it had something to do with the motion detection system we have in our peripheral vision. Also, green is a higher frequency than pink, so maybe the brain is finding a shortcut in resolving the periphery???
It's magenta not pink. Green is the color that you get when you combine cyan and yellow, the printing primary colors. I would imagine that if you did this with yellow, you would see blue, or if you used cyan, you would see red.
