The end justifies the surrender - Jeff Jacoby asks "What drives the Democrats?" and concludes that it's all politics: "Democrats, all smiles, prefer to lose the war and win the campaign. They're not alone. In Iraq, Al Qaeda is smiling, too."

ooooh, "it's all politics." Damning! As if Bush & Cheney are guided by the tear in their eye as they gaze upon Old Glory.

Jacoby's just whimpering because his team is losing, and is going to keep on losing for a while. He's showing definite symptoms of 28% Derangement Syndrome. "There may be some on the party's leftmost fringe who would welcome a US defeat on the grounds that the only good superpower is a humbled superpower." Big talk from a writer who doesn't, and couldn't, bother to name a single example.

And any pundit who approvingly reprints the quote "If the American forces leave right now, there will be civil war and the area will fall into total chaos."... gee, wouldn't it be awful if that future hypothetical ever came to pass?... shouldn't use the same breath to accuse the other side of "escaping into an alternate reality."

Don't be a partisan chump like Jacoby. Al-Qaeda has been "smiling" ever since Napoleon Bonehead granted their dearest wish by invading Iraq.
