Early Alito predictions - Even though red-state Democrats may be emboldened, any attempt to filibuster Judge Alito will fail if for no other reason than he was unanimously confirmed to the Third Circuit fifteen years ago. However, there will be a party line 10-8 split in the Judiciary and a 57-43 vote for confirmation in the Senate. The Coalition of the Chillin' wins again (although just barely).
Extra – George Will makes some good points on the battle for the judiciary in “Let the great debate begin.”

Good news: 59-41. Bad news: Alito's confirmation will be the last political accomplishment of the Bush presidency.
