It would not surprise me to see Verizon ignore the union demands. After all, it's been shedding its landline business, selling them off to HawaiiTel, FairPoint, and Frontier. (HawaiiTel and FairPoint went Chapter 11 within 2 years of their purchases, telling you how bad the landline side of the business is faring.) This might be Verizon's chance to whittle away at its remaining landline operations.
