IRobot/Roomba didn't really need any help to cripple their own business. They went a similar route to Kodak and Blockbuster by holding onto their old ideas and refusing to innovate while their competition did. Sticking with old technology while everyone else went with lidar mapping and insisting on trying to sell separate vacuum and mopping units when everyone else was coming out with combo mop/vacuum designs.
The only reason Roomba held out so long was they had a patent on the best vacuum brush design. That patent recently ran out, and naturally every other company is now using which removed their only advantage on the competition.
