Junior breaks free - From USA Today: "Rampant speculation Wednesday night had Junior set to announce he was leaving Dale Earnhardt Inc., the company founded by his late father and the only team he's ever driven for, to field his own Nextel Cup team."

Extra - NASCAR.com all but confirms the rumors. Goodbye DEI, hello JR.

The closer we get to the Car of Tomorrow being the full-time racebed, the less I care.

Prediction: somebody with a little money and a love of stock car (is NASCAR going to change its name?) racing's roots will partner with tracks like Darlington, KY Motor Speedway, etc., to field a "true" stock car series that will leave NASCAR in the dust within 10 years.

Perhaps. But any track already connected to NASCAR would risk losing the profitable NASCAR race or races they already have. They'd risk bankruptcy.
