In the old days we called them character actors. A great tradition that included John Carradine, Stother Martin and many, many favorites of the Golden Age of Movies and TV. (here's a great site to visit if you love old movies and early TV: http://www.dougmacaulay.com/kingspud/ks_index_gca.html )It's the best gig in Hollywood, frankly. You don't have to spend all you make keeping up appearances or putting things up your nose and if you get old, grey and fat, you just start working those kinds of parts.
