Doug Flutie drop kicks into history

After scoring a touchdown against the Miami Dolphins today, the New England Patriots appeared to be lining up for a two-point conversion, sending in backup QB Doug Flutie instead of placekicker Adam Vinitari. But then Flutie stood a good ten yards behind the offensive line in what was surely the farthest shotgun position ever. Just what was going on?

Flutie took the snap and, as Dolphins defenders closed on him, pooched the ball between the uprights in the first drop kick in the NFL since 1941.

I started to laugh so hard at this bit of end-of-season trickery that I thought I would hyperventilate. At the end of the game, they were flashing the 43-yr. old veteran's statistics in the NFL capped with "one extra point."
