Social Security reform – back on the table?

Probably not for the 2004 election, but the personal account proposal gains some support in this story:

WASHINGTON — A new report says Social Security reform envisioned by President Bush in his 2000 presidential campaign can work, leaving supporters encouraged that proposed measures that lost popularity following tough economic times and tougher critics could re-emerge as an issue in 2004.

I’d be satisfied if Bush passes a “Hands-off 401(k)s” law. As I’ve noted before, I’ve always felt that the inevitable insolvency of Social Security will force the federal government to start seizing money from personal accounts.
