The New York Times gets an ombudsman!

The age of Howell Raines is officially over: the Times has somebody "charged with publicly evaluating, criticizing and otherwise commenting on the paper's integrity". In this article, he introduces himself and notes:

One of my oldest friends is boycotting The Times because of what he considers its conscious hostility to conservatives and its "institutional inaccuracy."

"Hostility to conservatives?" That's an understatement.
