An insult to the national intelligence

I can't give Obama's speech a proper review because I had class tonight so I only heard part of it on the car radio. But of what I did hear it was 1) nothing new and 2) ridiculous.

I have to ask: is Obama illiterate? Has he read any newspapers besides the New York Times? Glanced at a blog? Has he even heard of the Congressional Budget Office?

A couple days ago, I predicted the speech would be a harangue with no details. He harangued and provided no details...by his own admission! His characterization of those evil insurance companies was cartoonish, full of moustache-twisting profiteers. The public option was misrepresented and his explanation of how this trillion-dollar plan would be paid for was risible. It would take me all night to go through the transcript and correct all the contradictions, truth-shading, and outright lies.

Extra - Cato liveblogged the speech with many links.

Even more - GOP rep Joe Wilson apologizes for yelling "You lie!" to Obama. Which is appropriate because it's disrespectful to the President. Plus, Obama didn't lie because he corrected the number of uninsured in the country to leave out the illegal immigrants he counted before, just in time for this speech.

And this - A review from Power Line: "This was not, to put it kindly, a speech that was directed at thinking people."

Amazing to see so many conservatives rediscovering their righteous anger in such a timely and principled fashion. Especially in regards to something that - unlike the Iraq war - offers taxpayers some return for their dollar.

Oh no! Accusations of lying about health care proposals! The thinking people (and we all know who THEY are) deserve better!

(AP) The Republican national party has mailed a fundraising appeal that suggests Democrats might use an overhaul of the health care system to deny medical treatment to Republicans.

A questionnaire accompanying the appeal says the government could check voting registration records, "prompting fears that GOP voters might be discriminated against for medical treatment in a Democrat-imposed health care rationing system."

It asks, "Does this possibility concern you?"

"The RNC doesn't try to scare people," said [RNC spokeswoman Katie] Wright. "We're just trying to get the facts out on health care. And that's what we do every day."

So many anonymous people, how drear.

How do these anonymous responders live? Hold jobs? Have bank accounts? Are they a collective of the dead fish going with the flow?

Must be part of the Obama myrmidons, that great gelatinous mass at the bottom of the waterfall, bobbing, rotting and finally sinking out of sight.

Yeah, anonymity is a real problem, Mr. (or Ms.) Woodchuck.

Congratulations on your successful career, which I can only assume involves chucking wood.

My heavens no, chucking wood? How beneath my station.

Besides blogging I manage my investments, laugh at Obama's jokes and when I have time, squish peons.

You're STILL there? Haven't you abandoned Vermont YET? How will the great gelatinous peons ever learn their lesson? So far, you're more "halt" than "Galt."

Why do you assume I'm still in Vermont? when you go somewhere do you change your name?

If I were dopey enough to still be clinging to a sophomore year crush on the philosophy of Ayn Rand, but never acted upon it, I'd change my name, my job, my residence... I'd wear a green wig and walk with a limp, if it would help to hide my embarrassment to anyone who knew me.

But me, I'll show them. I'll show them all someday. Just when you least expect it, I'm "Going Gandalf."

I thought that was you, Frodo.

Silly Frodo, making money, going Galt and squishing peons are for humans.

Froot Loops, Socialism and Slavery are for Frodo!
