Metaphor of the dayReason Online: "The idea of Joe Biden…being in charge of anything other than a card game on the Acela club car is pretty disturbing. To have [him] overseeing the implementation of nearly $800 billion in government loot boggles the mind. It's like Jimmy Stewart turning over his bank's money to Uncle Billy for safekeeping in It's a Wonderful Life." Zing!

In a totally unrelated story, the stock market dropped 250 points today after it was announced that Joe Biden would oversee the stimulus money. Remember: coincidence is not causality.

Teacher says every time a Republican talks about their deep opposition to deficit spending, an angel is savagely beaten with a steel pipe.

Whatever you do, don't look at Tuesday's financial news.

It's also a good idea to forget about Wednesday's Drudge Report, which led off with a big chart showing the Dow dropping, ostensibly in reaction to Obama doing something terrible and awful. (The drop was actually because of further housing market woes.)

But Drudge's chart and banner headline mysteriously disappeared just hours later, as the Dow's early losses were completely reversed. Coincidence is not causality... but it might be cowardice.

Ah, if only Matt Drudge had kept the faith and not bailed! After showing a midday gain, the Dow ended 80 points down. Quitters never win, Matt.

Just a month into their nightmare, and already we've seen emotional overreaction after emotional overreaction. How weird, coming from the we-don't-pay-attention-to-polls, only-history-will-judge-us conservatives. It's almost like a syndrome... some kind of deranged syndrome.

It's better than that. Drudge's banner headline went from "WAS IT SOMETHING HE SAID?" to "STOCKS REBOUND" to "WAS IT SOMETHING HE SAID?" to being completely off the page. This roller coaster ride took less than six hours.

Matt Drudge might want to invest in a bigger hat. The one he's wearing seems to be squeezing off the bloodflow.
