Brave, brave Al Gore

Surely somebody so learned, so dedicated to his sacred cause, would crush ManBearPig global warming disbelievers at every carbon footprint. Or not.

The interview had been scheduled for months. Mr. Gore's agent yesterday thought Gore-meets-Lomborg would be great. Yet an hour later, he came back to tell us that Bjorn Lomborg should be excluded from the interview because he's been very critical of Mr. Gore's message about global warming and has questioned Mr. Gore's evenhandedness. According to the agent, Mr. Gore only wanted to have questions about his book and documentary, and only asked by a reporter. These conditions were immediately accepted by Jyllands-Posten. Yet an hour later we received an email from the agent saying that the interview was now cancelled. What happened?
He didn’t want to enter an intellectual battle unarmed.

Riiight. Al Gore is obligated to put up with a contrary plagiarist who fabricated data and distorted others' research... just because. Or else he's a pussyboy.

Meanwhile, you practically have to go through magnetic resonance tests and purity questionaires before they'll let you into a pre-scripted Bush Bund Rally. How convenient, when cowards only come in blue.

Hey Publication - keep repeating the lies about Lomborg. If you do it long enough and often enough, they might actually gain some currency in the distant future.

You know, the much, mcuh warmer one.

Heh.

Needless to say, comparing one restricted, no-criticism-allowed political pep rally to another doesn't violate Godwin's Law.

But then, most people who end their own posts with a fake "Heh." usually aren't the sharpest when it comes to nuance.

Drudge Report has broken the huge, huge story that a local Alabama TV weatherman has disputed man-made global warming on a blog.

This totally redefines the scientific debate. Unless Al Gore immediately agrees to a series of public debates with the head of the Tuscaloosa 33/40 Weather Center, Gore's position will herein be considered invalid.

Really now.

Bjorn Lomberg is probably the most well-known of the global warming skeptics. If he "fabricated data and distorted others' research", wouldn't it be a prime opportunity for Gore to put Lomberg in his place? Maybe that's why Gore's agent thought it was a "good idea."

The comparison between a political rally and an issue discussion is also a stretch.

A stretch, it's true. But then, instances of Bush facing his critics eye to eye in a non-bubble situation aren't exactly ample.

Michael Moore is "probably the most well-known of the George W. Bush skeptics." Therefore it's only logical that Bush be obliged to debate him whenever Moore chooses. Yes, it would legitimize a marginal figure, but think of the colossal benefit to Bush: wouldn't it be a prime opportunity to put Moore "in his place"? On a stage, in the limelight? That'll show him!

Moore/Lomborg is another inexact comparison between two blowhard self-promoters, I concede, since "Fahrenheit 9/11" hasn't been debunked nearly as hard as "The Skeptical Environmentalist." But you know who else didn't like imperfect analogies? Hitler!
