How can we miss you if you won't go away?

Hot Air: "Ebola nurse Kaci Hickox would appreciate it if you stopped calling her that."  Wow, the self-styled martyrdom of this woman has no bottom.  She's the Sandra Fluke of infectious diseases.

Extra - Neo-Neocon: "Hickox really isn’t the ebola nurse; for one thing, she hasn’t demonstrated that much knowledge about the disease. But she just might be the most detested nurse in America right now."

She was unethically and unscientifically detained for public relations purposes unsupported by science and reason. The press has ginned up public hysteria about ebola. She had her civil liberties violated and she spoke out about it. She points out how uninformed the press coverage is about this and how that can in turn warp public opinion.

Why wouldn't those who fancy themselves libertarians then laud her as a champion of individual rights? Why are they (and you) taking the time and effort to write nasty things about her?

There is something that is trumping logic and reason here...fascinating Captain...

That's right: Kaci was asymptomatic just like that first guy who dropped dead and her blood test came back negative just like that doctor who assumed room temperature this week.

Should a nurse returning from Western Africa steer clear of the most populated metro area in the USA for a couple days? With the precious benefit of hindsight, some say no!

Nigel's opinion on this has been the same troughout. Hindsight has nothing to do with it, and no snark or logical fallacies are required to support it.

If you had an interest in understanding how, when and why you quarantine someone and the details of the cases you reference, you would come to a different conclusion. Or you can read Hot Air.

The more interesting question is why are these different right wing blogs so keen on trashing this person? Why are you?

The doctor who recently returned from Sierra Leone wasn't exposed to (known) ebola patients and initial blood tests indicated no exposure. Now he's pushing up daisies.

Given what is known and unknown, was Kaci's quarantine a reasonable action by the governors of New York, New Jersey and Maine? Some would say yes, including 2/3rds of Garden Staters.

Instead of accepting that it might be better safe than sorry, Kaci declared her bike ride an act of "civil disobedience" and her fight against Maine "a fight for justice." Why she's a modern day Rosa Parks!

With her last little op-ed gasp, she and her boyfriend (who dropped out of nursing school because injustice!) are recovering from their great ordeal by staying with family for a couple of months. One hopes there is an ample supply of smelling salts.

The level of invective aimed at this person in the sources cited (and in this blog) is fascinating in its disproportion.

There are no legitimate medical or medical ethics opinions cited to support the assertion that it was appropriate to quarantine her.

Have you considered the implications of this 'better safe than sorry' approach to health care professionals?

How many people in the Garden State thought Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez were going to lead the Jets to the promised land? One can understand why they believed that, but it had no bearing on reality and was not useful to understanding whether or not they had a legitimate shot.

Nigel wearily shakes his aged head as he hears loud echoes of some of the misinformed and hysterical public reactions to HIV/AIDs back in the 80s. Or maybe it's tinnitus from all that Led Zeppelin he used to listen to at volume 11.

Can I recommend some domestic help for you? Have you heard of Mary Mallon? Hell of a cook.

The irony is that we both look at your Typhoid Mary reference and think that our point had been made.
