Vance has learned a thing or two from battling a hostile press. Walz has avoided them and it showed last night. He did what Biden did - he stared with a terrified look on his face as Vance spoke. But for Vance, there isn’t a nasty question he hasn’t already had to answer at least ten times. If you’ve been watching his press conferences as I have, you already know he can handle them. He was born to do this. You can tell when he’s about to give a really good answer because he blinks very slowly to show he’s tolerating their terrible question as he locks and loads. But it wasn’t so much how he batted the moderators around — always a fun thing to watch — but how he directed his message straight at us, those watching at home.
Vance soared in this debate because he absorbed the lesson that Trump did not in his debate: the mainstream media is your enemy. At every campaign event, Vance invites questions from the press which is almost universally hostile to him and Trump. And he answers them. So when it came time for the debate, Vance was well-practiced and tempered by fire.
On the other hand, Democrats in general are so used to the kid-gloves treatment that the result is Walz's fumbling and bumbling performance. Me? Answer questions? What is going on?
"America Finally Got to See the Real JD Vance
ReplyDeleteAnd on the fifth J.D. Vance persona!
It's all about the future.
ReplyDeleteJ.D. Vance isn't focused on Trump trying to steal the last election. He's focused on Trump trying to steal the next election.
"The media was caught out once again lying."
ReplyDeleteJ.D. Vance said that Trump deserves credit for saving Obamacare. Trump tried several times to repeal it; you may remember John McCain jabbing his thumb in Trump's eye.
J.D. Vance said that January 20, 2021 proved that Trump was committed to a peaceful transfer of power. Well, at least Ashli Babbitt is very peaceful.
J.D. Vance said energy production has gone down under Biden and Harris. False. U.S. energy production is at record highs.
How Vance Won
ReplyDeleteWalz's gains in the CNN poll among independents (18 points) were actually slightly larger than Vance's (14 points).
Vance came into the debate with just 68 percent of Republican-leaning voters and Trump supporters viewing him favorably, and he increased both numbers to 85 percent. But these are voters to whom Vance should logically appeal. And he gained little with Democratic-leaning voters, seeing his favorable rating rise from 2 percent to 7 percent.
Walz, meanwhile, saw his favorable rating among Republican-leaning voters increasing from 8 percent before the debate to 24 percent afterward. So one-quarter of Donald Trump's and Vance's own base that watched the debate came out of it liking Walz.
Walz gained less with Democratic-leaning voters, given that nearly 9 in 10 already liked him before the debate.
J.D.'s got this guy seething and it's glorious.
ReplyDeleteI'm almost as red as all your Red Wave elections that never came.
ReplyDeleteThis one's for Trolly.
J.D. Vance on Tuesday:
“I’m focused on the future.”
Vance yesterday:
“The media is obsessed with talking about the election of four years ago.”
Donald Trump today:
“We did much better in 2020. We won. We won. We did win. It was a rigged election. It was a rigged election.”
