    The rush to hang the first "Mission Unaccomplished" banner onto each new car technology is unseemly. And can sometimes seem desperate, when we get claims like "each car costs $650,000" (or whatever). Apparently, this will be the first industry where R&D amortization will not apply.

    And in the long run, the naysayers are likely to be wrong. Hybrids were once certain to be a flop, too. But a funny thing happened on the way to the scrap heap.
