They’re not that smart

Although I generally agree with Charles Krauthammer that the terrorists want President Bush to lose (“Terrorists’ Candidates?"), I don’t think they’re of the right mind to think a Madrid-type bombing would backfire on them. That would suggest an extended sophistication of thought beyond their capacity. The terrorists’ thinking is more linear: “It worked in Spain, maybe it’ll work in America.”

    That is nothing but wishful thinking mixed in with western arrogance.

    Nope. Wishful thinking is that a major vile terror plot gets undeniably busted before the election due clearly to provisions of the Patriot Act.
